An newly discovered asteroid will be captured by Earth's gravity this fall. The "mini-moon" will spend about two months in Earth's orbit, before being flung back on its normal path around the sun.

Astronomers have reported that Earth will have two natural satellites for nearly two months, from September 29 to November 25. In addition to the Moon, asteroid 2024 PT5, known as a minimoon, will also be moving around our planet.

The bus-size asteroid, which was discovered on August 7 by the NASA-funded Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS), will be sucked in by Earth’s gravitational pull from September 29 to November 25, USA Today reported. During this interstellar layover, the space rock will likely become a “temporary mini-moon,” per Marcos.
