Rishabh Pant struck a century on his return to test cricket as India reduced Bangladesh to 158-4 at stumps on day three of the first test.

CHENNAI: A sublime century by Shubman Gill (119 not out) and a hard-hitting 109 by Rishabh Pant helped India set a mammoth target of 515 runs for Bangladesh on the third day of the opening Test at Chepauk here on Saturday.

India declared on 287/4 with Shubman Gill unbeaten on 119 to give Bangladesh a target of 515 to chase over two and a half days.

Bangladesh were alive in the game and fighting when off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz troubled the Indian batters with a five-wicket haul while defending a target of just 145 runs. In his five-for, Miraz dismissed Pujara, Gill, Kohli, Pant and Axar and had India reeling at 74/7. But, his effort went in vain as Iyer and Ashwin took India home.

Bangladesh started briskly in their mammoth chase of 515 on day three of the first Test against India after centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant steered the hosts to 287-4 declared on Saturday.
